27 weeks

Here are some random pictures from the past week. Ollie went to the nursery at church for the first time; I think it was harder on us than it was him. We aren't ready to let him out of our sight! We went to a cookie exchange at the neighbors house on Saturday. The three youngest there (including Oliver) ranged in age from 6 mos. to 2 years and we realized they all weighed within 3 pounds of each other. WOW; Ollie's a big boy! We leave tomorrow morning (6AM) for a week in Springfield for Christmas. We are looking forward to our vacation, but not excited about the cold weather. Burr... Hope you all have a very Merry Christmas; we have surely had a blessed year!

Grandparents Visit

So my parents (Kassi's) visited this past week and boy did we have lots going on! We saw Christmas lights, a lighted parade of boats, Oliver saw Santa, we had his 6 month well visit and also got Christmas pictures taken! Oliver now weighs 20 pounds, which puts him in the top 10 percentile for his age. His length though is off the charts, which is expected coming from a tall family. He had several shots yesterday and is feeling a little under the weather today...hopefully these symptoms are because of the shots and not that he's getting sick. :-/ Hope everyone is enjoying this Christmas Season; I know we sure are!

Thanksgiving

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving...hope all of you did too. We had two turkey dinners at two different friends homes. They were both yummy! Oliver also had his first food besides rice and formula; daddy thought sweet potatoes was appropriate. We've got all of our Christmas decorations up including our new 12' tree! Don't you just love this time of year?!

Weeks 23 & 24

Here are some pictures from the last few weeks. I have been busy planning a baby shower for a friend of ours. We also went to a music/wine tasting party on Saturday night and I've included pictures from it. It was pretty chilly here; I even broke out my heavy coat! We saw another 6 month old at the shower and WOW Ollie is WAY bigger than he was. This little guy also had 2 teeth and was sitting up already. We will get there soon enough I am sure. He has slept through the night twice in recent days, which is a HUGE milestone in Mommy's book! By the way, a full night for him is 12+ hours so that was cool. This past week Ollie sat in a shopping cart and a high chair for the first time too. I was such a proud mommy telling everyone in Walmart his accomplishment of master the shopping cart. It was like he was graduating from Kindergarten or something...I think he liked being up high; it was like a whole new world to him. Hope everyone has a Happy Thanksgiving! We have so much to be thankful for; most of all for our healthy little precious boy. Take care, love you all.

We had a fun filled weekend going to West Sacramento to ride the spook train on Saturday and visiting the pumpkin patch in Dixon on Sunday. Our little boy is getting more fun everyday as he develops with own personality and notices new things. Mommy's birthday/20 weeks!

Yesterday was Mommy's birthday...we won't mention how old she is. ;-) We ate dinner at Carino's with our friendly neighbors and it was yummy. The mess on the changing table happened this morning while shooting the cute video of Oliver in his Jumperoo. Wyoming Vacation/19 weeks

This past week we flew to Denver to meet up with Jeff's parents and then drove up to Cheyenne Wyoming where we visited Jeff's grandparents (Ollie's great-grandparents!). It was really nice getting to see everyone and celebrating Grandpa Ward's 94th birthday. Check out the pictures:

18 weeks

Saturday was the baby reunion for our Labor of Love class we had back in May. Oliver got to meet his friends he didn't even know he had. It was so neat to meet all of the other babies and hear stories from the parents. The first little boy, Liam, was born at the end of June (1 month early), but the other three including Oliver were born within 1 week of each other (again all before their due dates). I thought that was really special that all 3 are so close. The other two babies are named Helen and Keoki. It will be fun to stay in contact with them over the years and watch how they all grow and change. I thought for sure Ollie would be the biggest one there, but we were wrong!

Oliver gets a new chair

Oliver is now eating rice cereal like a champ, which didn't take long. Mommy can barely shovel it in fast enough. We borrowed this little chair from our neighbors and it helps support babies to sit that otherwise aren't big enough to do it on their own. He seemed to love it since he always wants to be upright anyway.

Videos of Ollie at 18 weeks

So I've taken some videos today and last night of Mr. Oliver to show how big he is now. We tried the rice cereal, but I think Ollie was too fussy and hungry to want to take the time to eat it. It doesn't "flow" as fast as the bottle does so he was a little confused. We will try it again though under different circumstances...also daddy poked him in the eye with the spoon :- / Check it out.

Oliver's 4 month check-up

We took Oliver in for his 4 month check-up yesterday and he seems to be doing really well! He weighs 17.4#, which puts him in the 90th percentile for his weight. His length is more average at 24.5". He had to have 2 shots and 1 oral vaccine that he sisn't like too much, but he was a trooper and seemed fine the rest of the day. He is awesome at his head control and has been for a while. He has rolled all the way over a few times, but mommy has yet to see it. Daddy claims he did and even got it on video. We are about to start him on rice cereal because the doc said it should help his spitting up problems and hopefully keep him fuller longer since we are still feeding him every 2 hours! The olther night he slept 7 hours in 1 stretch which we REALLY appreciated, but a typical night is more like 3-5 hours at a time. He doesn't go back until he's 6 months old and I can't believe how fast that day will come. He is so much fun and he amazes us everyday with a new face or espression.

Olliver puts his feet in...

Oliver and I went to the pool today with three other moms are their 5 kids. It was pretty hot here, 95-100 degrees, and Ollie was sweating in the shade so we decided to see how he liked the water. I was thinking it would be too cold for him, but when I put his feet in he seemed to like it. Guess I should have brought the swim trunks! All of the other kids came running and jumping in the kiddie pool so we had to let Ollie's clothes dry out. Next summer he'll be big enough to get in the big pool with mommy and the other kids....

Leaving the nest...

So last night Oliver spent his first night sleeping in his own room! We thought it might be time for several reasons, but Mommy wasn't ready for him to make the move. We leave our windows open at night in our room along with the running the ceiling fan so sometimes it gets below 60 outside and Precious has ice cube fingers. Also, we had a monitor with a video and microphone on it, which broke, but the new one has arrived so we have no excuse. Now with his monitor and a warm bedroom he did great, but I had no idea how lonely it would feel in our room without him! I think I just had my first round of many "empty nester" feelings. :( Friday night Oliver also had a 6-1/2 to 7 hour sleep stretch, which was heaven for Mommy and Daddy! He has had a few 5 hour stretches, but 3.5 is typical per night. He's such a good baby; always goes right back to sleep after his night time feedings.

Oliver rolls over!

So Oliver just turned 11 weeks yesterday and he rolled over on Sunday! Jeff and I both missed it, but we found him on his belly when we had left him on his back. So today I catch him rolling over about 5 different times. He rolled over twice in 5 minutes, which I also missed. Not until I set up this video camera did I actually catch him in action. Take a look at the video by clicking on the link below. Normally he's a much happier baby, but he was hungry and frustrated with me. I told him if he would just roll over for me then I would feed him the rest of his bottle. I know I am a horrible mother. Don't worry, as you can see he hasn't missed too many meals! I can't believe this child is growing up so fast. I am excited for him, but at the same time sad. I almost cried when I watched this video. :(

Oliver's first baseball game

Here are a few pictures from the past couple of days. Last night Oliver attended his first baseball game; the Athletics vs. the Yankees. 8 of us all went together so he had a good time. (Of course the Yankees whipped the A's.) Oliver did pretty well, however, each time the crowd would cheer really loud he got a little startled. Overall he was a really good boy. In a few weeks he will be seeing the Springfield Cardinal's play while we are home visiting the family and we can't wait! Enjoy!

Oliver & his Jumperoo

This morning Daddy and Oliver put together his jumperoo and we just happen to set him in it although mommy was sure he was way too small for it. Needless to say...he LOVED it! Notice the 2 books we had to stack up just so his little feet could have something to bounce off of? Check it out...

Oliver Becklee~10 weeks

Here are some photos from the past week. Oliver and his BFF Johnny had their pictures taken in their matching Monkey Butt outfits. So cute! This morning Oliver discovered his tongue and how to mimic daddy. We have been working on this because we noticed that when we are talking to him he tries to do what we do. This was the first time he actually stuck his tongue out when we did. So neat...check out the video by clicking on the pictures so you're taken to the Picasa site in order to play it.

Ollie Speaks

Here is a video we finally took of Oliver talking to us. We've been trying to get him on camera for a while. He talks and smiles so much now it's amazing! He even spoke to Grand-Daddy on the phone tonight and listened to everything he had to say. Daddy was the man behind the camera so I apologize for the poor quality. Enjoy...more to come so check back soon. Go to this link to view video: http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/sredir?uname=umrjeff&target=PHOTO&id=5368177746050612914&aid=5368176308503233585&authkey=Gv1sRgCNfL4ZDAoNvMCg&feat=email

9 weeks

Here are some photos from this past week. Mommy finally got around to making Ollie his mobile and I think he enjoys looking at it. He also went to the pool this week with his 2 little girlfriends Mya and Maria as well as an A-B BBQ. He even talked to his Grand-Daddy on the phone tonight. Enjoy!

Ward Grandparents Visit

Well, we have had an eventful weekend! Jeff's parents came on Friday to see Oliver for the first time and we have had lots of fun while they are here. On Saturday we spent the day at the August Fest down in Suisun City on the Waterfront and tasted beer, listened to music, ate some Greek food, window shopped at various different vendors as well as saw Jet Ski races. We had a blast and it was nice to get to be outside all day enjoying the beautiful weather. Sunday we went to church and then hung out around the house getting windows washed, etc. Jeff took the day off today, which was nice to have an additional day to all spend together. The picture of Oliver and the other little boy is our neighbor Johnny and they are best friends. He's about 8 months older than Oliver and I think Oliver may catch up to him before we know it! Tomorrow is Oliver's 2 month pediatrician appointment so we'll have to report back with all of the new measurements, etc. Can't believe how big our little man is! Enjoy!

New Activity Mat

Today Oliver finally got an activity mat and he loves it. He laid under it for a whole hour while listening to his new c-d of baby songs. He also had story time with Daddy last night and paid attention for the whole book. So big!

Ollie goes to the pool

So today was Oliver's second trip to the pool. Mommy and Daddy spent a relaxing day there and it felt good to be outside in the heat and spending time together as a family. All weekend was family time together and it was great. Today Oliver had 2 firsts; he wore his swim trunks for the first time, but never actually had them on at the pool since he napped the whole time, and he also had his first shower. Daddy noticed that Oliver had peed on everything in sight so he put him in the shower with Mommy for a quick clean-up. Not sure what Oliver thought of it, but it seemed to work okay, although Mommy made sure to hold on very tight. That's all for now; enjoy the photos!

Friday Night Creek Walk

Last night we went to the Vacaville Creek Walk, which is a summer concert series in downtown Vacaville on Friday nights. We had a nice time although is was pretty chilly and windy! Good thing I brought Oliver's blanket to keep him toasty! Notice our friend Ama's pink shirt? We found out she's expecting and got that for her to help announce the wonderful news to all of Vacaville. I am glad she felt comfortable wearing it as I don't think I would have when I was pregnant.

7 weeks

Oliver is now 7 weeks old. Wow he is growing like a weed. As you can probably tell from the pictures he's really filling out noticeably in the face and thighs. Here are a few pictures from the last 2 days. Last night (actually 3AM) while feeding him it was 65 degrees in our house with the windows open and the ceiling fan on and Oliver was chilly so I bundled him up in his blankie and stocking cap. I thought he looked so darn cute I was laughing out loud while taking his picture...Daddy slept through it all. Needless to say I couldn't get him to go back to sleep in his bed so he ended up sleeping with me and we both woke up sweaty.

Ollie goes on a walk

Here are some pictures of our family walk this evening. Ollie needed a blanket because it cools off so much in the evenings. The wind picks up a lot too, which is why our temps can vary so much. It's hot during the day and then windy and cool every evening. Keeps us from having to turn on the air! Right now it's 9PM and 69 degrees and was in the 90's earlier today.

Today

Here are some pictures from today. We were able to get a couple decent ones of Oliver smiling. (It's not a good pic of his mommy, but you can see him smiling up at me.) He's only done this a few times so daddy did good getting it in a photograph. He's been smiling and almost laughing in his sleep for a while, but his new thing this past week is to goo and ga and grin while he's looking around at things while either laying in his crib or the changing table (never while I am holding him). He still acts like he doesn't see us looking at him, but every now and then he'll focus on our faces rather than what's around us and we'll either get a grin or his famous serious concentration frown. Tonight Daddy had to work so around 8:00, when it had finally cooled off, Ollie and I set out on a walk and he laid in a reclined position strapped into his stroller (without the car seat attached) and looked around the whole time with the wind blowing through his hair. I should have got a picture because it made him look so big! He's so much fun!

Fajita Night!

Tonight we had a fiesta at our place and invited two other couples, which are good friends that Jeff works with. They loved getting to hang out with Oliver and hold him.

Happy Father's Day!

Today is a special day as it's Daddy's first Father's Day! Yesterday was Mommy's actual due date, so to think he's already been here 2.5 weeks is just amazing! We attended church this morning at 9:30 and were impressed that we all 3 got bathed and around in time. Daddy was recognized as being the newest father in the congregation...go Daddy! We couldn't believe how many strangers came up to us at church and said "this must be little Oliver". I guess everyone was excited to meet our new arrival. We came home and took pictures on our back patio so we could look back and remember this beautiful occasion. Enjoy the pictures~some are from a few days ago and others were taken today.

First day home and visit to the Pediatrician

Well, we've only been home 1 day and it was a pretty eventful one! We had a 2:30 doctors appointment for Oliver where he already received his first shot. :( We made a trip to Target since the Ward home had no food to speak of (Mommy thought she had a few more weeks to stock up on things). Our friends/neighbors brought us a lovely meal for dinner plus several kinds of yummy looking soups, and some other friends stopped by for a visit and to meet the "main attraction". Enjoy the photos; I am sure there will be many many more to come!

Oliver Ward is Here!!

37 full weeks

Hello all! So I am now 37 full weeks and will begin the 38Th week tomorrow. Only a few weeks to go! We are trying to get all of our loose ends tied up before the little man arrives. Still working on packing the labor and hospital bags although we're getting closer to having it all gathered up. I am getting more and more uncomfortable, but haven't really noticed signs of pre-labor so not quite sure when he will decide to make his grand entrance. We have yet to finalize a name...I guess at this point we might as well wait to see his little face before making a final decision. Tonight we have our very last baby class, which is on newborn care. Hopefully we'll have a better idea of what to do once we bring him home after tonight. That's about all that we know at this point. Pray for us as I am quite anxious about the birth and hospital stay. Jeff thinks I should go natural for the delivery (or at least try to)...I think he's crazy.

Week 35

This week I am in my 35Th week! We had a busy one with Joy (Jeff's Mom) coming to visit for a few days and of course Mother's Day was in the mix as well. Joy arrived Wednesday evening...we quickly dropped her off at the house and headed to our second to last Labor of Love birthing class held at the hospital. Thursday Joy assisted me in getting all of the card orders for Price Cutter boxed up and to the post office. Check out all of the cool designs at a Price Cutter or Food Pyramid near you! Thursday evening Joy, and I along with our neighbors Lisa, Jake, and Johnny went to the first Farmers Market of the season in downtown Fairfield. We had a great time and tasted lots of yummy local produce, etc. Jeff met us for dinner at a favorite little outdoor cafe in Suisun Valley where there are lots of local wineries. On Friday we celebrated Mother's day early and I took Joy to get pampered at a nearby spa for a mani and pedi followed by lunch at a German bakery in downtown Vacaville. I got a pedi as well although it was painful at times with my horribly swollen feet. :( It was nice though since I can't reach my feet to paint my own toes. And we are finally to Saturday, which is where the pictures below come in...we decided it would be nice to be outdoors since the weather was just lovey, low 80's, so we packed up and headed to the Dixon May Fair. Good thing the fair is held in May because any later in the year and I would have croaked! We had a great time seeing the sites and partaking in fair food such as kettle corn and corn dogs. Lisa and Johnny joined us and I think he had fun as his first fair; he even got to see a goat. Saturday evening we had a BBQ on our lovely patio and Lisa and Johnny joined us. Sunday morning, Mother's Day, we got up at 5:30 AM to take Joy to the airport for her 8:30 AM flight back to Springfield. Jeff and I spent the rest of the day on the patio soaking up the sun as he planted some shrubs and palm trees and I relaxed and gave him moral support. We ended the weekend by treating Lisa to dinner at Chili's in celebration of her first Mother's Day since her hubby Jake was out of town and unable to pamper her like she deserved. I would say overall it was a pretty good weekend. Now I am ready to sit back relax and prepare for this baby boy to join us. Hope all is well with our friends and family!

Jeff and Kassi's Baby Shower~4/25

Jeff and I were thrown an AWESOME baby shower yesterday and I was beyond surprised. Of course Jeff was in on it, but I had no idea this was all being planned. Our dear friends the Florkos made it so special for us and filled their home with many friends that we have gained while living in California. I was under the impression I wouldn't be having a baby shower, but the fact that so many people were involved and kept it a secret made me feel so loved. There are tons of pictures that were taken to remember the special day so Jeff has put together a slide show for those who wish to see more. Take a look by clicking on the slide show below. If for some reason you can't get it to work shoot me an email and I'll send you the slide show directly.

32nd Week

Here I am at the beginning of my 32ND week. Wow time has flown by and we can't believe we've only got 8 or so more weeks to go! It was 80 degrees yesterday, when I took this photo, and in the 90's today. I was excited for the hot weather, but it sure is rough on a pregnant lady. Lots of excessive sweating involved! We FINALLY got our baby bedding in the mail and it looks great. A little further to go on decorating the nursery and it will be ready to be revealed on Ward's Words. One thing about being pregnant that I never dreamed would happen to me is swollen ankles and feet! It's horrible and these feet of mine look like they are from another humans body they are so large and foreign looking. I took a picture, but is too embarrassing to post so I will just allow you all to come up with your own visual based on my description. It's painful to walk and shoes are getting harder and harder to wear. Good thing it's flip-flop season! Tomorrow we are selling Kassi's trusty little Liberty and are both sad to see it go. It was such a good car, but the reason for change is a good one as the time has come. :( I also have a doctors appointment tomorrow so hopefully things will go well and I'll have some new news to report. Kassi is busy working on an 1,800 card order for 17 Price Cutter Plus stores in the Missouri and Oklahoma area so she's trying hard to get it completed before the baby comes. Look for them on the counters in the floral department and you should find an assortment consisting of teacher appreciation, happy birthday, anniversary, baby boy, baby girl, and 4 designs of the small 3x3 cards for floral arrangements, etc. As always I do custom orders too, but make sure you get them in before June or who knows when I'll find time to make cards as my priorities will have changed. :) Well, I guess that's all for now. Thanks for checking in and we'll post more when it happens. Take care!

Middle of week 29

So I am in the middle of week 29 and it's a good day here in sunny California so I thought I would show off my belly. :) It's in the 60's outside and feels great...I can't wait for summer!! Tomorrow we start the first of a 6 session class called "Labor of Love" which is basically a Lamaze class at the hospital. I think Jeff and I are both excited and nervous because we don't know what to expect and the fact that it's already time for this class to start is a wake up call reminding us that the little booger will be here before we know it! We are still working on his name, but have it a bit more narrowed down now. Hopefully we will get it confirmed soon! The nursery is still pretty empty, but I hope once the bedding that I ordered will arrive in a few weeks and I'll be ready to get movin'; first we'll have to purchase a mattress for the crib though... That's all for now, I'll post more when something comes up. Later!!

Week 27

Okay so Saturday marks the beginning of week 27, which means I'll only have 14 weeks to go! I weighed myself last night and I am up to 21 pounds gained, which is a shock to me because I am not quite sure where it's all going. I do feel like I am walking around in a fat suit because it's more work to get around, but I sure don't feel 21 pounds bigger! In the last month I have also grown 4.5" around my belly. I am off now to get tested for gestational diabetes so that should be fun...NOT! Then Jeff and I are on our way to register at Babies R Us. Baby is kicking more and more each day, but the little booger still doesn't have a name. Hopefully by the time he's birthed he'll have one! It's a beautiful 66 degrees out so I'll enjoy being out and about in the baby buggy!

Our New Baby Buggy!!

Yay...We finally got baby Ward a buggy! I have been drooling over Aspen's for a while and we finally found a nice used one in our budget. It's a 2007 with all the bells and whistles as you'll see in the pictures. We just picked it up last night from a woman I found on Craigslist. Let me tell you...Craigslist is the way to shop! Not only are you buying local, but you usually get a pretty good deal and you can haggle. Unfortunately, we bought this car from a family that the husband recently was let go from his job. They said it was either sell the car or sell their house, which was also lovely. After we picked up the car, we drove on another 30 miles and picked up a baby crib that I also bought on Craigslist. :) Again, this is a family that the husband lost his job so they are training the baby to sleep in a toddler bed earlier than planned so they could sell the crib and whatever else they can. Their home seemed beautiful as well, but it had a SOLD sign in the yard because of their uncertainties they figured they should sell the house now before they get to the point where they can't make the payments. After meeting these two wonderful women the effects of a poor economy really hit home for me and my heart aches for what their families must be going through! Jeff said he was glad that we could help them out, but I felt like I was stealing candy from a baby. The family that we bought the Aspen from had it custom built when she was expecting her little boy 18 months ago and now they had to get rid of it. Not only that, she has had so many tragedies in her life she has had to overcome, which she shared with Jeff and I and now this! I can't imagine having to give up and sell whatever you can to prepare for what unknowns are to come. This experience really made me realize how fortunate Jeff and I are that God has blessed us with our beautiful home and the job that he has. If we would have stayed in St. Louis he would also be out of a job right now. We pray that God will continue to watch over us and protect us during these hard times as well as our friends and loved ones. Take care and sorry for the long post!
